BitDive
What it is
BitDive records runtime activity from Java and Kotlin services and turns those executions into replayable JUnit 5 tests. Engineering teams can compare behavior before and after a code change to spot differences such as SQL drift, additional HTTP calls, or performance regressions. Its agent captures method calls, SQL queries, HTTP requests, Kafka messages, JVM metrics, and exception traces, working at the bytecode level without source-code changes. It supports Java 8 through 21, and generated tests run with Maven or Gradle. BitDive also makes runtime context and trace operations available through MCP to AI coding tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, and Claude. Its integrations list includes 49 technologies, among them Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, JUnit 5, and Testcontainers. Deployment options include hosted SaaS, on-premise, self-hosted, and air-gapped installations. The free Developer Use plan is free and includes the workflow, but has no SLA, indemnities, or custom engineering. Company Rollout pricing is custom.
For and against
For
- Records calls, queries, requests, messages, metrics, and exceptions
- Generates replayable JUnit 5 tests
- Works with Java 8 through 21
- Offers hosted, on-premise, and air-gapped deployment
- Masks sensitive fields inside the JVM
Against
- Free individual use has no SLA
- Free individual use excludes indemnities and custom engineering
- Enterprise retention policies are custom
The verdict
BitDive connects recorded service behavior with repeatable JUnit verification and before-and-after comparisons. Individual developers can use the workflow free, while company rollout pricing is custom.
Who it suits
BitDive suits JVM engineering teams that want to verify code changes against real service behavior. It is also relevant to teams using AI coding tools or needing self-hosted and air-gapped deployment options.
