BG0
What it is
BG0 removes photo backgrounds in a browser and downloads the result as a transparent PNG. Image bytes remain in the browser rather than being uploaded for processing. The web remover accepts PNG, JPG, WebP, HEIC and HEIF images up to 40 MB. It runs BiRefNet and can fall back to BiRefNet-lite if the selected model cannot run. First use requires an internet connection to download and prepare the model; the browser can cache it for later visits. BG0 is free, with no account, credits, subscription or stated usage limit. Developers can use the @bg0/browser library to add on-device background removal to a web app without a server or API key; the library uses WebGPU or WebAssembly. Its documented iOS path uses a single-threaded WebAssembly worker and BiRefNet-lite, with output limited to 1280 pixels on the longest edge. There is no manual touch-up editor. BG0 says it uses PostHog for anonymous analytics, with session recording, advertising, fingerprinting and automatic click capture disabled.
