What it is
Altvisor is a web platform for generating image alt text and organizing accessibility work for EU e-commerce sites. It drafts descriptions against WCAG 2.1 Level AA in all 24 official EU languages, with a person able to review and edit each suggestion before publication. Its scanner checks alt text, headings, semantic structure, and language tags, then returns an AI visibility score; every plan includes a free scan. Altvisor can prepare accessibility statements and compliance reports from current scan results, but the statements are self-declarations rather than certificates. Images can be imported from websites, and the service describes connections to WordPress or WooCommerce. Shopify and WordPress plugins, a Chrome extension, and API documentation are marked as coming soon. The Free plan is free for 50 images monthly on one website and excludes an accessibility statement. Starter costs €12 a month (billed €144/yr) for 600 images monthly across two websites. Unused images roll over for up to three months on Starter. Altvisor says image uploads are processed in memory and deleted from storage, while generated alt text and limited metadata are retained. AI inference is hosted in the EU.
