ActOne Screenplay
What it is
ActOne Screenplay is a free, open-source desktop workspace for writers and filmmakers on Windows and Linux. It uses Fountain plain text and renders scripts in Courier Prime on US Letter or A4 pages with real-time syntax coloring. A collapsible outline organizes acts, scene headings, beat synopses, scene tags, estimated page length and character counts. Projects can contain multiple screenplays, character bibles, treatments, draft revisions and Markdown notes, with timed local snapshots. X-Ray visualizes dialogue and action density, character dialogue presence and estimated screen runtime. Muse can connect to local Ollama or LM Studio instances, or custom API keys, for brainstorming and story analysis using scene context. ActOne exports PDF files, supports two-way Final Draft FDX compatibility, and includes tags for props, wardrobe, stunts and VFX. The maker says writing stays on local disk without mandatory sign-ins, online sync, cloud tracking or AI model harvesting. Local AI can run offline, and custom API keys are encrypted on-device.
